Result to balance

Grading is immediate; the balance is not

An event can finish and be graded in minutes, and the funds can move on a schedule. Those are two different clocks, and most of the frustration around settlement sits in the gap between them. This page is about the stages after grading — when a balance is credited, why an amount can be shown but not available, and what a delayed settlement does and does not change.

The gap after grading

There are two separate events, and the rules treat them separately. The market is graded when the result is known to the named source. The balance moves when the operator settles it, which may be governed by a schedule, by a confirmation from the event organiser, or by the point at which the result is final rather than provisional.

From an official result to money you can move
T0 The result is official at the source

The named source publishes a result. The market can be graded from this moment.

T0 plus minutes The market is graded

The bet is marked won, lost, void or partly settled. The settlement record is written.

T0 plus schedule The balance is credited

The funds appear in the balance under the settlement schedule the rules state — commonly stated in hours rather than seconds.

After the fact An amended result or a correction window

A late change to the result, inside the stated period, can re-grade the market and move the balance again.

The rule to look for is the sentence that states when a market is settled rather than when it is graded. It is short, it is published, and it converts a source of worry into a schedule you can check.

Shown, available and cleared

A balance can display a figure that is not yet yours to use, and the reason is that three different states exist where the interface shows one number.

  • Graded but unsettled. The market has an outcome; the funds have not moved. The amount may appear in a settled-bets view while the balance is unchanged.
  • Credited and available. The funds are in the balance and can be used or withdrawn, subject to the account's own rules on withdrawal.
  • Credited but held. The funds are in the balance but a condition — an open verification, a bonus term, a withdrawal review — applies before they can be taken out.

Confusing the first with the third is the usual mistake: a bet that has been graded and a balance that has not moved yet is a timing matter, while a withdrawal that is held is a separate process with its own rules. The statement and the bet history usually show the distinction, and reading both is faster than asking.

Why a settlement is delayed

Delays cluster into a handful of causes, and each has a rule attached rather than a person.

Common causes of a delayed settlement
CauseWhat is actually happeningWhere the rule lives
A provisional resultThe source has not finalised the result, so grading cannot beginThe market definition and the result-source clause
A pending amendmentAn enquiry, a review or a stewards process is runningThe amendment clause and its period
A result under appealThe rules may say the market settles on the final result after any appealThe appeal clause
A schedule rather than a delayThe market is graded and the funds move under the published settlement scheduleThe settlement schedule
A bonus conditionThe return is credited but tied to a wagering condition before withdrawalThe bonus terms, which are a separate document

The distinction that matters most is between the second and the fourth rows. One is waiting for a result to become final; the other is a normal schedule that would have applied to any winning bet. Only one of them is a reason to ask a question.

What delay does not change

A delayed settlement is not a different settlement. Four things stay the same while the balance lags, and keeping them in view prevents a timing question turning into a dispute about the bet.

Settles as
  • The price on the slip, which is already fixed
  • The market definition, which decides what the bet was on
  • The result source, which decides which result counts
  • The rules in force when the bet was placed, including any correction period
Does not settle as
  • The outcome: a delay does not change whether the market won or lost
  • The accounting: a bet that lost does not become void because settlement was slow
  • The correction right: time passing inside the stated period does not close it, and passing outside it does not extend it
  • The withdrawal rules, which are a separate process from settlement even when they arrive in the same week

That is the useful mental model for the whole chain: grading determines the answer, the schedule determines the arrival, and the correction window determines how long the answer can still be revised. Only the first of the three is about the event.

Betting involves risk and can cause serious financial harm — including debt, damaged relationships and mental-health problems. Understanding how a bet is settled does not make it a good bet: a void bet returns the stake and nothing more, a deduction reduces the return that was displayed when you placed it, and a correction can move a balance down.
